Willingness

Willingness – The W in the Wake-Up Framework

By Chantal McIntyre

In this video, I’m talking about one of the key elements that make up my Wake-Up framework, and that’s the letter W which stands for Willingness.

Willingness is the driving force behind our dedication and motivation to achieve our goals. It’s about embracing the readiness and eagerness to take action of our own accord. When we are truly willing, we do things because we genuinely want to.

In my last newsletter I talked about being willing to go within, so you don’t have to go without. The first letter of my Wake-Up framework stands for willingness. The willingness to be brave, show up and do the uncomfortable messy work. As leaders, you already know that all growth requires willingness to stretch beyond where we’ve been before.

For me, BEING WILLING means, we become open…

To take risks to create new capabilities.
To face our fears
To overcome our own excuses

What I’ve learned from working with so many leaders over the years is that willingness comes when their desire for results or accomplishing what really matters to them is bigger than their fears, bigger than their comfort and convenience and bigger than their current circumstances.

I am personally struggling with my own willingness this week in learning how to do these videos regardless of my travel schedule or how I feel on any given day because I’m never going to “feel” like it. My strong desire to serve my clients and share what I’m up to with you with the intent of positively impacting at least one person who hears this, must be bigger than my fears of pressing record! It has been a big learning curve for me, and I’ve had to dig deep within to find the courage to act and press record and start speaking, REGARDLESS of whether I’m scared or whether I feel like or not.

The cost of not doing the thing really has to be bigger than the fear. The most successful clients I work with are willing to show up, regardless of life’s circumstances, to work on themselves FIRST so they can successfully lead others and their business. In my last Leaders GPS program, I had 5 different generations of leaders who were willing and able to make big changes in their careers and lives by being willing to learn to overcome their fears and excuses to take action and achieve what mattered most to them.

So here I am in my hotel room in Montreal making the choice to be willing to do this thing, regardless of my itty-bitty shitty committee state of mind right now in the hopes that I’ve inspired you to keep choosing willingness and taking action toward what really matters to you – and remember, you don’t have to do it alone!

1/3 of our lives are spent at work, but so many leaders are wasting away and letting their brilliance or genius die inside them. In my previous career as the VP of HR at a technology company, the majority of my time was spent coaching leaders who needed support with all the people problems on their teams. Through this work I realized how people’s deep need for fulfillment was realized through finding meaning and purpose at WORK – and how this specifically drove the bottom line in business.
